I’ve often encountered a problem in previous few Final Cut Pro X versions – when launching the app it would often freeze at “Restoring the window layout”.
To solve this issue, Apple suggests the following:
1. In the Finder, hold down the Option key and then choose Library from the Go menu.
2. In the Library folder that opens, go to Application Support > Final Cut Pro.
3. Drag the Layouts folder from the Final Cut Pro folder to the Trash.
For me, however, this did not solve the problem. In one of the forums I finally found a suggestion that did it for me:
1. In the Finder, hold down the Option key and then choose Library from the Go menu.
2. Go to Preferences
3. Move com.apple.FinalCut.plist to trash and restart FCPX.

You are a legend! I’ve been looking all over for a solution to this very annoying problem and had tried everything everyone suggested with no success. Then I found your post and presto! Thank you so much!
Thanks!
Solved but in another way: Couldn´t find the above files, so i simply located the last final cut bundle 0 ( projectfile with all material), right-clicked “show content” and then dragged the “originals” folder to my desktop. Then i trashed all bundles inkluding b-ups. By this way I saved my originals (!!) but did have to restart my editing from scratch. FCP working better-faster than ever. ( means that theese files that should abort stays hidden in the bundles and ift you cab´t locate them this is the another solution to get FCP working)
