Update: the guitar was sold in December 2018.

I’m selling my main spruce guitar!

It’s been an important part of my life for the past 10 years – I played it in dozens of YouTube videos like my Capricho Arabe video you’re watching right now, played many concerts with it as well as used it in all of my three CD releases.

It’s a guitar built by Austrian master luthier Bernd Holzgruber. It features a solid spruce top and gorgeous “Rio” Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The latter are even reinforced with a layer of spruce inside.

Its neck is made of mahogany and the ebony fingerboard is noticeably raised for better playability.

The tuners are made by Gotoh and in good working condition.

Overall the guitar is in excellent, almost mint condition, but has a few marks on the soundboard.

I think the main strong points of this guitar are the incredibly long sustain, nice palette of colors and the absolutely balanced fingerboard. I also love the way the soundboard reacts to right hand action.

The scale is 65cm and the neck is quite hefty – not very sleek, so I wouldn’t recommend this guitar to people with smaller hands, but it is very reliable and a great option if what you want is a clean sound without too many squeaks and buzzing.

The guitar has quite a strong character and a well defined sound. If you like the way it sounds on this video, I think you would be very pleased with its performance.

Lastly, the reason for selling is that in the last year I’ve tested a few guitars that better suit my personality and I could see them using for more purposes in the studio, so I’m ready for the switch. You’re welcome to visit me in the studio to try it out. I also dropped the original price quite a bit so I think it will sell quickly…

    Hi,
are you still selling you guitar?

  • Hi,
are you still selling you guitar?

  • Hi Uros,

No doubt you already sold your guitar, but curious what did you replace it with? I’m looking for an upgrade from my student guitar, and considering German/Austrian or Spanish luthiers. Any advice on the pro/cons on these types? Thanks.

  • Unbelievably late query, but just saw this. Is the instrument sold? (I assume so). If not,
please quote your asking price. Looking to find a replacement for my Michael Thames
#767 spruce/indian rosewood. just turned 75(!) and wanting to get that “last guitar” to
carry me on to the end. 🙂
I continue to enjoy your lovely playing and informative videos. If you and your family are
ever in the Bay Area (we’re north of San Francisco about an hour–Sebastopol), consider
staying in wine country with Linda and me. I could arrange a house performance for you.
    Cheers, Terry Mills
