Making of the AirString Website

Being a newcomer and at the same time increasingly drawn to the world of graphic design and WordPress, I decided it was time for me to build my first WP based website for one of my recent projects, AirString Duo. After learning the basics of WordPress I started designing the AirString logo (see below) and the website’s basic layout.

AirString Logo

The AirString logo was inspired by this image of the von Karman vortex street effect. I think it suits the name of AirString perfectly as it shows the motion of the wind across a string, which causes a periodic vortex downstream which causes the string to vibrate. The image was then adapted to show both the letters A and S. Following the suggestion of a graphic designer, we agreed to substitute the Minion Pro font with Times, while adding some final touches to the logo’s image.

SimplePress Theme

The theme used for this particular Website was created by Nick and his crew at Elegant Themes. I slightly changed the theme’s CSS and added functionality by installing the following plugins: GigPress, NextGEN Gallery, Audio player, Contact Form 7 and WP-Table Reloaded (used for inserting the .mp3 files into a page – to make it work I had to do this tweak). To further optimize the website I used the following plugins: All In One SEO Pack, Google XML Sitemaps, WP Super Cache, WP to Twitter, FeedBurner FeedSmith and Akismet.
